I would like to tell you why I decided to purchase a water softener for my home. Despite frequently visiting websites like unifiedwater.com for tips on how I could improve the water running through our faucets, the idea of purchasing a water softener always seemed like a waste of time and money to me. That was always how I viewed this subject, at least until I moved into a new house that was too far out of town to be on city water and instead operated on a well. At first, I thought this was going to be a great thing because I had always heard that well water was superior to city water. Needless to say, I was excited about the prospect of not having to drink the city water that never tasted quite right anymore. I also liked the idea that I wouldn’t have to buy bottled water by the truckload any longer. You can imagine my disappointment when we moved into our new house and I found out that the well water was so hard that it was clogging up my faucets on a weekly basis.
Realities of Hard Water
Without a doubt, having well water wasn’t what I thought it was going to be like. I spent the overwhelming majority of my time cleaning all of my faucets because I didn’t want them to be blocked up with all of the minerals all the time. The next thing I knew, my coffee maker was taking three times as long to make coffee as it had taken when it was brand new and then one day, it simply stopped working altogether. In my quest to figure out what had gone wrong with something that was practically brand-new, I took it apart. What I found made me realize that I was going to have to do something soon. There was lime completely blocking up the entire system. This made me wonder how long it was going to be before my washing machine, my dishwasher and everything else looked the same way.
Just when I thought I had been introduced to the reality of hard water, I started to notice other things as well. Every time I would get out of the shower my skin would itch and at times, it would almost even burn. Even my head itched all the time. I hadn’t changed shampoo or soap, so I knew that I couldn’t be allergic to anything. I knew it had to be the hard water. Of course, I quickly became very concerned because as I started to realize that this water made my skin burn and clogged up all of my appliances, I started to grow very concerned about the fact that my family was also drinking this water.
Eventually, I made the decision to take the plunge and purchase a water softener. One of the first things I noticed was that my skin no longer felt dry and flaky. It felt normal again. My hair wasn’t dull, but instead it was sleek and shiny. I even felt better when I drink the water and I knew that it was safer for my family as well. Now that I have become a fan of water softeners, you can bet that I will never go back to using hard water again. It simply isn’t worth it.
